Best Organic Cookies!

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the absence we have been traveling and fighting the flu. As promised I will be posting even more organic recipes and ideas moving forward. Anyone catch Dr. Oz yesterday about the gmo's and pesticides in our food?

Here is the best cookie recipe I have ever tasted:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose organic flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) organic butter, softened (I melt in the microwave)
  • 3/4 cup  organic cane sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed organic brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large  organic eggs
  • 2 cups Best Life Mini Chocolate Chips

Preheat oven to 375 and wait for the oven to beep-so important so the cookies come out perfect! This recipe also makes a ton of dough so we split into 3 and put in the freezer for later. The tiny chocolate chips are best because they spread out and are to die for delicious!

Combine all in a bowl and cook for 8-10 minutes. I pull out at 8 minutes and let sit on the hot stove to cool so they can settle and cook a little more. Enjoy-finally a cookie I feel good about feeding my daughter!

Going Organic-Is it for you?

Four years ago I began a downward spiral of medical disorders. It started with limbs going numb then on to slurred speech and constant pain and stomach problems. The short list of my recent diagnosis of the last six months includes Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and on and on. Of course my first thought was how I had horrible genetics and how could I feel this bad everyday still being in my 20's. After visiting a genetic specialist I really thought being on 6-7 medications was going to be my life...I mean these were specialist how could they be wrong? Then this past weekend my life changed for the better-I attended the amazing WOW Summit by Mom's Meet-Just look at all these great bloggers trying to do the WOW sign:
So at this amazing conference I heard the most amazing feedback in a break out session. There was another person just like me-countless diagnosis and at the end of the line. I came home full of hope-could you really "heal" your body with food? So I began to search the web and guess what-I found story after story of people that went organic and started to feel better. Now I am not saying that every health condition can be healed by changing your diet but I do think that it can help with many of my symptoms. Follow me on my journey of finding great tasting organic products and healing my body. Also I will be posting various articles about the truth of GMO's (genetically modified plants/organisms) and how we may be poisoning ourselves without even realizing the cost. Join me as I travel down the organic path and train myself to eat healthy and clean!

9thandElm.com Giveaway & Review!

This is a Fashionista Event. I was given a promotional item to review by 9thandElm.com to share my opinions about the website. All opinions are my own.

Have you heard of 9thandElm.com? It is one of the newest best kept secrets!  9thandElm.com was founded by Clay and Elly Bethune in the spring of 2013 with a mission to bring it's members fabulous fashion from the best handmade and independent designers. We realize it is extremely difficult to sort through and discover handmade fashion geared towards the "fashionista". Search no longer. Exclusive deals handpicked by our buyers will be delivered daily to our users inbox. This site is a multiple designer site.
I personally choose this fantastic necklace from Punky Bunny Designs:
That is actually my daughters handprint! I am always looking for fantastic "mom jewelry" that does not scream "hey I have kids!" and fits my entire wardrobe. This is by far the sweetest piece of jewelry I have ever owned. Each time I look at that tiny little handprint I think to the day we made her handprint and she said her hand wrinkles would not let the paint stick hence the little missing sections of handprint. My husband and I recently went on vacation and I was able to take a little piece of little miss and have her close the entire time-just look at how dainty and perfect the necklace is:

It is just the perfect piece and has gotten countless comments and questions. 9thandElm offers so many great designers-there really is something for everyone! Be sure to follow 9thandElm on facebook and twitter to keep up with all the new vendors! Want to win? Enter below to win 1 of 3 prizes including a $200 gift card, and two $100 gift cards!

By entering this event, please note that you are agreeing to be subscribed to 9thandElm.com newsletter.

How are your allergies?

Back to school time has hit us hard with all the allergies-sorry to say but I am eager for the frost to stop sneezing! Thanks to Children's Claritin & Mom Crew we have made it well into fall with minimal sniffles at school. Here are some other great back to school allergy tips:

1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!
2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your
child’s daily routine.
3. Let there be light! Mold doesn't like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy
during the summer months!
4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow
your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.
5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing
machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.
6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days
can be particularly high in pollen.
7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens
from body surfaces and hair.
8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the
day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.
9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the
day.

Feel free to leave your own tips below!

As a member of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew, I receive product samples and promotional items to share and use as I see fit. No monetary compensation has taken place and any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience.

*Just think of all the great gift ideas-I am thinking teacher gifts in addition to the inlaws!*

Learning fun for home and the classroom!

Have you seen the new LeapReader? It is now available for purchase in most of your favorite stores including our favorites Meijer & Target! The reading and writing system is perfect for ages 4-8 and really keeps kids busy!
This year I will once again be room mom for my junior kindergartner and had the privilege of taking two LeapReaders to school (a big thanks to MomSelect and LeapFrog!) It was a combined class party with twenty four 4-5 year old's that were eager to play and engage while focusing on a frog unit. I thought it would be a great blend into the unit and a perfect station to really see how well the LeapReader worked and held the attention of so many children. So what was the fan favorite? The Monsters University 3D Book! The kids loved the 3D glasses and most took a pair home because the glasses were "magical".
What did the mom's like? The top must have was the Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil and the Talking Words Factory Flash Cards. Everything was such a great mix of play and learning that each of the classrooms is keeping a LeapReader in the classroom for free choice.
I enjoyed watching the children play with each of the activities and "teach" each other how to work the LeapReader. I found it easy to transfer from activity to activity and very easy to use without having to read a huge how to book. We plan to buy little miss one for the holiday and include all the princess books and flashcards. What is your favorite LeapFrog product?

*I have received the LeapFrog products to host a sponsored classroom party. All opinions are my own*

Fall Fashion for Less!

If you have been following for some time you would know that I an obsessed with Meijer! When we first moved to our current home I never heard of the store and not open to trying something new...flash forward three years and I would not shop anywhere else! You have already me rave about the free cookies for the kids at the bakery which is a great way to start a drama free shopping trip and Sandy the horse the end (only a penny to ride!) for those who behaved while shopping. EVERYONE in my family loves Meijer so with fall approaching I decided to dive in a little deeper and explore the women's clothes.
Now I have not really added much to my wardrobe in two years because I really did not want my "nice" clothes being ruined by a messy toddler. All this did was get me used to dressing in comfy clothes that really were not flattering or helped me feel good about myself. In that time because everything stretched I gained some weight and am happy to be back on track to a healthy life.
Meijer has created a Fall Lookbook which showcases some of the exciting Fall fashion offerings available at Meijer to show how you can get on-trend items for less. I am in love with the back of this shirt- absolutely love simple colors with detail!

I went to Meijer armed with a $50 gift card and $5 off $50 purchase thanks to MPerks. Here is what I came up with:

Outfit #1: Jeans from Meijer ($12 on sale!), Shirt was on sale for $10 and boots I found in my closet. I absolutely love the detail on the shirt and how it really adds to the look without being crazy in your face. I also like that I can pair this with black pants and wear to work with a simple black bead necklace!

Outfit #2: My one goal was to add some color to my wardrobe. I wear a TON of black and white and really wanted to get some color that would blend with things I already own. Jeans are from Mejer ($12 and super comfy), White tank from my closet, green long flowing cardigan from Meijer (love that it is the perfect length and make my legs look longer), shoes and necklace from my closet.

Outfit #3: Jeans ($12 Meijer), Cardigan & shoes from my closet, Ruffle tank from Meijer. I had a hard time passing this one up even though it is black & white! I love how the ruffles move with you and hide any extra you might have around the middle. This is one of the most flattering shirts I have owned in a long time and I like that it is sleeveless so will transition well from season to season.

Do you love Meijer as much as me? Right now Meijer is hosting a Pinterest contest where pinners have a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards. Pinners simply enter here and pin five items or outfits from the Meijer Fall Fashion board onto any one of their boards. Winners will be chosen the first week of October. You can find more info about the contest on the Meijer Style page.

Looking forward to seeing your fall styles!

Is your little one back in school?

Our school year is in full swing and little miss is in junior kindergarten this year! She goes five days a week and even stays for lunch each day which is a bit of an adjustment and although I was a bit sad that summer was over I was also doing a bit of a happy dance thinking of a few hours of freedom each day.....can you relate?
Now this is our third year of school and I had the entire summer off work so it was a bit of a different feeling. I mean my baby was no longer a baby and next year she would be in school full time-that is so hard to imagine! She is such a big girl she even dressed herself for the first day of school....I mean who doesn't want to wear pearls and giant hairbands everyday of their lives:

So I made it the entire first week and then today while working on snack for the class for the week I break down and absolutely loose it! How in the world can this little miracle baby be going to school full time and not need me anymore! Of course I know she needs me and we still will have fun but its not the same as when she was little and I was her number one playmate. Every time I look at her I see this little baby stuck on her belly because she couldn't figure out how to roll over to her stomach. It is hard to believe that she is four and tomorrow I will blink and she will leave us for college....I am by no sense saying life is roses each day but it is the tiny moments you want to reach out and hold on forever.
So back to our snack situation. Does your child's school have a "waste policy"? It is a big thing in Canada and we are starting to receive more pressure to adopt this style of life (no problem for our family since we have been living this way for years). Basically they encourage you to pack your child snacks/lunches that do not have to be thrown away such as sandwich bags and juice boxes. I will reveal a ton of great ways we have been saving money over the years with these products but I want to tell you a little about the new and improved Squeez'Ems Reusable Food Pouch:
This is one of my favorites for lunch time because little miss loves fruit purees but not so much whole fruits. For example if an apple is brown of a banana is mushy she will not eat it or even think about touching it. To make sure we are using all of the fruit in our house and that she is getting the best of the best we started "fruit salad Sunday". On Sunday we go and get her favorite fruits and get out the Magic Bullet. She then picks out five combinations and we blend each with a bit of vanilla yogurt. This is such an amazing "trick" because she will ALWAYS eat what she thinks she "cooked" herself. Here is one of our new favorite recipes:

Raspberry Applesauce Pouches:
(Makes about 3 pouches)
2 Cups Applesauce (I use the no sugar added if I am already using a sweet fruit)
2 ounces raspberries pureed (I use my Magic Bullet but sometimes I will have her smash them in a plastic bag to make her feel more involved)

*Note the best part of mashing the fruit in a plastic bag is you can easily cut off the corner and transfer to the pouches with little mess*

So far lunch has been a complete success-not only are we saving a ton of money by NOT having to buy a bunch of those fruit pouches that are so pricey but I know exactly what is going into her lunch. She loves that the pouch is just like the throw away pouches-it has an easy twist on cap and the other side has a clear window so you can tell when you are getting to the end of the pouch. All in all this first week of packing lunches has been a success-stay tuned for my tutorial on making your own peanut butter and jelly uncrustables!

A new blog and a new me!

So I want to start off by apologizing to all you for my extended absence. During the past few weeks I was sick then got into a bit of a funk and really started to think. Many of you who have been with me from the beginning remember why I started this blog-a place to vent and really express who I was and coping with being a mom with a long distance family. Over the years I have tried to find you the best contests and prizes which comes with a lot of wheeling and dealing and led to a review/giveaway blog. Although I love all the prizes and the feedback on how great your children/partner/family loved the prize I realize I have lost the personal connection. During the next few months be prepared for a slow change-more personal content and a ton of pictures! Here is a to finding myself again and to getting to know more of you personally!

Excited to be back!

Ready to ROAR back to school?

It is so incredible that it is back to school week for most here in our town...we go back Monday which is so bittersweet. I cannot believe how fast our summer has gone and how much all the little ones have grown! You know what comes like a tidal wave after school-the holidays! I know, I know it seems like it will be a long way from now until the holidays but it is only 4 short months away! Have your kids started looking at all the new must have toys on the shelf? I know ours have and this year one of the most sought after is dinosaurs. ANYTHING dinosaurs-small toys, big toys, toys that make noise....I have even decided I am going to try to "build" a dinosaur nest in the toy room....will keep you updated on how that goes. So of all the dinosaurs on the market here is our number one new favorite-the VTech Switch & Go Dinos® Jagger the T-Rex!
This toy is so much fun! He recognizes your voice and is our new must have "rescue dino". He has saved dolls from the castle, roared at the out of control train, and even joined forces with the other rescue dinos to "help" our cat. Here is more on what VTech has to say:

The ultimate kid’s toy, Switch & Go Dinos easily transform between a dinosaur and a vehicle in a few simple steps.
·         Each of the collectible Switch & Go Dinos features high-quality electronics and a unique transformation feature to provide a 2-in-1 imaginative play experience.
·         In dinosaur mode, sound effect buttons emit realistic dinosaur sounds and phrases that teach facts about each dino, providing kids with fun and enriching playtime.

Highlights
Transform from a motorized construction truck to a powerful dinosaur with VTech's Jagger The T-Rex™! With voice recognition technology, this mighty toy dinosaur is yours to command! This electronic toy fuses two of boys’ favorite things—dinosaurs and vehicles—into one awesome play experience your child will love!

Description
I'm Jagger the T-Rex, and my power is yours to command! Tell me to "go", and I'll make the earth shake with my powerful legs! Or tell me to "eat" and my spike-like teeth and super-strong jaws will leave nothing behind! With your brains and my brawn, we can do anything! Just say the word! VTech's Jagger the T-Rex™ transforms from a super-cool construction crane to a fierce Tyrannosaurus Rex in just a few simple steps. Combined with voice recognition technology, this toy dinosaur is one of the coolest Switch & Go Dinos® yet! Play in truck mode with an awesome rotatable toy crane, a mini-transforming bulldozer, a voice-activated launcher-fired drill bit and realistic crane sound effects. Switch to dinosaur mode to see Jagger's animated dinosaur eyes and his powerful stomping feet. Jagger even recognizes and responds to 24 specific voice commands. Say “Roar with me,” and hear him roar with his voice-activated motorized jaw. Sound effect buttons emit realistic dinosaur sounds and phrases that teach pre-historically awesome dinosaur facts! He’s one of the biggest dinosaurs to roam the earth…and with his crane, now he can move the earth, too!

We found Jagger at many of our local stores and I know he will be a huge hit this holiday season. Not sure if you want a giant dinosaur running around your house? There are 15 other choices including Blister the Velociraptor who happens to be our favorite!
With so many choices in such a wide price range you are sure to find an amazing dinosaur for your little one. Be sure to enter using the rafflecopter form below to win three assorted smaller dinosaurs from VTech!

    Tea Time

It is hard to believe that summer will be over for our house in three short weeks...even worse I only have so many summers left before the girls are ready to be with their friends and I am only the taxi. This summer we decided to continue the tradition of "tea time" with lemonade and Cadbury ice cream.
Step one was to make some delicious lemonade:
Little miss was in charge of squeezing all the lemons while we boiled the sugar...it was so easy and such a joy to see her face that she was making all the drinks for the party. MomSelect went above and beyond this year with supplying hats and the most delightful tea set-just look at the detail on the cup:
Of course this was also one of the hats provided which had all the little girls running around and pretending to be "Princess Kate" (I love that she is such a positive role model).  Of course it would not be a Cadbury High Tea Party without Cadbury ice cream! The biggest hit for the girls was ice cream base with the Carmel swirl...moms on the other hand preferred the dark chocolate coated bars. The ice cream was a perfect treat and just the right size for the girls. All of the mom's had a great time getting a chance to play dress up and wear large hats while pretending the afternoon away with out little princesses. The party was such a success and I could not have asked for a better afternoon with the creamy ice cream bars and refreshing tea cups of lemonade....even the dog had a fantastic time!

A big thanks go MomSelect and Cadbury #CadburyHighTea for the party kit!

Of course I am always looking for a way to find great deals and stumbled upon Gift Card Rescue. The cite has been featured on CBS, in SmartMoney, and the New York Times to name a few. It's a great program were you can buy discounted gift cards or exchange gift cards.

I love that you can exchange the gift cards you will not use to find something that you can enjoy. Ever get that random gift card and you wonder around the store for hours only to come out empty handed? My family for some reason always buys either bath store or home improvement store gift cards for my family as presents and now I can exchange for something I will use like Target! Don't need to exchange? They have a ton of great stores for a discounted rate. Love that I can shop at all of my favorite stores for a fraction of the price. What a great gift for those going back to college or even for the holidays!
